RED PLANET HOTELS CELEBRATES WORLD CLEANUP DAY WITH TEN CLEAN-UP EVENTS IN ASIA

BANGKOK – In celebration of World Cleanup Day, a worldwide civic movement dedicated to collecting litter and waste, Red Planet Hotels bolstered its commitment to environmentally conscious hospitality with organised clean-ups in the vicinity of the company’s hotels in the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, and Thailand.

More than 20 properties, including Red Planet’s regional and corporate offices, worked with community-based organisations and local partners at ten public clean-up events in Southeast Asia and Japan. The events build on Red Planet’s commitment to address climate change, reduce overall waste sent to landfills, and eliminate single-use plastics.

The combined effort in all four countries brought together more than 3,000 individuals, and 100 local partner organisations and NGOs. Participants were responsible for diverting more than 13 tonnes of rubbish from being dumped on coasts and oceans, while sorting and recycling organic from nonorganic waste.

“These events underline Red Planet and local community organisations’ shared ambition and increased support for reducing environmental impact to keep our planet healthy,” said Tim Hansing, Red Planet’s CEO. “Besides clean-ups raising environmental awareness and building local community support, our green strategy also includes taking ecological considerations into account in all our hotel operations, such as Red Planet’s commitment to becoming 100 per cent single-use plastic-free.”

To raise environmental awareness in Thailand, 100 volunteers cleaned the well-known, palm-lined Jomtien Beach three kilometres south of Pattaya City. In Japan, 70 participants worked together with sculpture maintenance professionals to pick up trash in Sapporo’s Odori Park and clean outdoor monuments near downtown Susukino, home to the newest Red Planet hotel, Sapporo Susukino Central. In the Philippines, 148 employees collected and sorted 200 kilograms of waste from local neighbourhoods, streets, parks, and canals in Metro Manila. Across Indonesia, 2,600 volunteers took part in a coordinated removal of 12 tonnes of waste from beaches, parks, and streets.
