JAKARTA – Red Planet Hotels organised a beach clean-up in Makassar with local partners Earth Hour Makassar and #rethink on 23 February 2019. Over 200 volunteers participated to remove trash from Tanjung Bayang Beach, one of the region’s most scenic and best-visited beaches.

In recent years, Indonesia has witnessed a boom in its tourism industry. The rising number of inbound arrivals exceeded 11.5 million in 2016, 14.0 million in 2017, and 15.8 million in 2018. Overseas visitors flock to Indonesia for its world-renowned beaches and mountains, as well as its rich culture. This rapid increase in tourists is expected to continue with the Ministry of Tourism targeting 20 million foreign visitors in 2019.

As Red Planet Hotels is a major player in the inbound tourism flows to Indonesia, it actively seeks global and local partners for environmental activities which alleviate the negative impacts of tourism. To date, Red Planet Hotels has established such partnerships with 4Ocean, Earth Hour Makassar, and #rethink.

Red Planet’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Hansing, said, “I am absolutely delighted that Red Planet organised such a large beach clean-up. Besides our hotel staff, there were over 200 volunteers from the local neighbourhoods who took part in the event. This impressive turnout attests to Red Planet’s commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the island nations in which our hotels are located.”

Florent Pierre Humeau, Country Head of Red Planet Indonesia, commented further, “The outstanding result of the efforts of our hotel staff and local partners, Earth Hour Makassar and #rethink, is inspirational. We do what we can to enhance Indonesia’s natural beauty, and we are already looking forward to our next event!”
